General FAQ
How do I upload files to my website?
First you have to have an ftp program, like WSftp, or if you are using web design software like Front Page or Net
objects Fusion, which will upload files for you, enter http://yoursite.com for the address
to upload to, your username for user, your password for password, and www as the remote
directory.
I have uploaded my site to the server but still can't see it with a web
browser?
If all you see is the default page "Future home of yoursite.com", Make
sure that you uploaded your site correctly. If the files aren't in the www
subdirectory on your site, they will not be visible to the web. If you don't see
your files after uploading them, check to see they were uploaded properly with WSFTP. Make
sure that they are in the www subdirectory, and that your home page is saved as
index.html, or delete the existing index.html and you should be able to see your web site.
How do I access my sites control panel?
Once your domain name is transferred, you access your site by going to http://www.gopherdesign.com/cpanel
Enter your site's User name and Password at the prompt. You will now be
presented with your site's control panel. Follow the instructions for each menu item to
set up e-mail aliases, autoresponders, and front page extensions.
I installed Front Page extensions and now cgi programs won't work?
Front page changes the way your site is managed on the web server. One of the
draw backs is that it manages cgi programs in a non standard way and may result in the
inability to run programs that are not included as part of Front Page. This includes
most third party shopping carts, page counters, form mail scripts, etc... The only
way to be sure cgi programs will work is to not install front page extensions on your
hosting account. Additionally Some front page componants will not work even if the
Front Page Extensions are installed properly on your site.
If Front Page extensions aren't istalled, can I still use Front Page to
design my Web Site?
Yes. This is the way this very site was created. Simply design your site in
Front Page and use an FTP program like WSFTP
or any other located at Tucows.com to upload your site to
the server.
I am installing Cgi-Programs on my web site, what is the path to Perl,
and Sendmail?
The path to Perl should be at the first line of any cgi programs you are installing
that were written in perl. It should look like this: " #!/usr/bin/perl " with out
the Quotation marks. The path to sendmail is nessecery if your cgi program needs to
send an e-mail to you or anyone else. The correct path to Sendmail should look like
this: "/usr/sbin/sendmail -t" without the Quotation Marks. If you
would like to find a lot of quality cgi-programs to run on your site, many of them free,
go to cgi-resources.com There you will find
thousands of programs to fit almost any need. As long as the program you get says
Unix Compatible it should run fine on your site.
